Staff Backend Engineer, AI Systems
Job Description:
- Design and build core AI systems and platforms
- Work on core backend systems that power Mural’s agent platform
- Develop the agent memory layer and monitoring infrastructure
- Translate complex product needs into backend architectures
- Help define technical direction for agentic AI at Mural
- Champion engineering excellence and mentor others
- Contribute to team growth through hiring and process improvements
Requirements:
- 7+ years of software engineering experience
- Strong expertise designing, building, and operating reliable production systems
- Experience designing and operating distributed systems for complex workflows
- Familiarity with AI, LLM, or agentic systems
- Strong focus on production quality
- Strong communication skills
- Experience working full stack or collaborating closely on product-facing frontend experiences
- Deeper AI/ML experience
- Experience with knowledge graphs, graph-based data modeling
